Signs You Need to Replace Your Window
It’s sad, but true – windows don’t last forever. Like every other portion of your home, windows will eventually need to be replaced. Aside from the obvious – if your window is cracked or shattered, for example – it’s not always easy to tell if a window actually needs to be replaced or not. Fortunately, there are a few warning signs that should give you a clear indication that it’s time for a new one:
- You feel air coming from around the window frame. Whether it’s cold air in the winter or warm air in the summer, allowing outside air to come into your house around poorly insulated windows can cost you a significant amount of money in your energy bills.
- You have to prop up the window in order to keep it open. This is usually an indication that the window and/or window frame have deteriorated beyond the point of repair.
- Your window appears to have a permanent foggy appearance. This is most likely caused by a failure of the window’s seal.
- If you can see light around the perimeter of the window from the inside during the daytime, or if you shine a flashlight around the window frame at night and the light is visible from inside, it’s probably an indication that your weather stripping needs replacing.
If you have questions regarding whether or not you need new replacement windows, ask a window specialist. He or she can assess your situation and make recommendations about what type of window might be best for your home.
